Boxycharm - July 2015 Review

Boxycharm is a $21 a month beauty subscription box with 4-5 full size items and free shipping.

I received my first box - the July box - and here it is:

A cute, basic black box.

Open it up and it looks awesome!

Here is my loot.

The gorge I'll make you look amazing daily spray, $29.95. I received the full size. I liked this product. It did add a lot of moisture when I sprayed it on my dry ends, and it smelled good too. I don't think I liked it enough to spend about $30 on it though, but it was nice to get in the box. It had a funny amount of claims on the bottle.

I received the "Medium Full Size" - is that medium as in color? Or size? Confusing. In any case, this product was translucent on me, with a small amount of pearlescent glow. The texture is amazing. Very subtle and pretty. I need to try it over makeup, but so far it is a winner.

Versanti Professional Blush Brush, $29, full size. Ok, I really love this brush. It is soft but not too soft, and does a fantastic job. Plus it's pretty. I think it's worth the cost of the entire box.

OFRA Cosmetics Lip Liner, $13.00. This was a great feeling lipliner, in a color that does not work for me. It could, however work for other skin tones.

And lastly:

The MDMflow Greater Than Mascara, $35. I was really excited for this mascara from the UK. It looked awesome, the wand looked amazing, and then I smelled it. It smelled so funky. I'm not 100% sure, but it very much smelled EXPIRED. I really hope I am wrong. I couldn't find any complaints from other reviewers. In any case, I decided not to try it and will be contacting Boxycharm

Final thoughts: At first I was a little underwhelmed. But I really like that I am actually getting some mileage out of these products. The mascara was a disappointment, but other reviewers really liked it. I would really like it if Boxycharm had an option to receive my basic coloring so I receive products (like the lipliner) that will work for me. All in all, worth the purchase, but some reservations.

Have you tried Boxycharm?

xx Jen

Best Beauty Subscription Boxes Over $15

A few posts ago I compiled a list of 8 Beauty Subscription Boxes $15 and under (yes that is a link if you would like to check it out) - and now I am upping the price to over $15. I found a lot of very cool options when I was researching my $15 and under post, and am excited to share what I feel would be good options to try. As always, check out reviews, be cautious, and I do not endorse or guarantee any of these products.

1. Glossybox - this box is $21 a month for monthly billing, and $18.50/month if you prepay for 12 months. There is also the option of prepaying for 6 months though the price is the same as month to month. Shipping in the US is free and shipping to Canada is $5. You receive 5 deluxe samples of high end products. The reviews I read and watched showcased a gorgeous box and adorable packaging. This is for sure a box I would love to try, and the main reason is the brands (well known and high end), the sizes (deluxe), and all the great reviews I found.

2. Julep Maven - I tried Julep Maven when it was pretty new and really liked it. In face I still have some of those nail polishes. They are 5-free polishes, meaning free of 5 harmful chemicals, and cruelty-free. The program is more customized now - you can pick a box, swap a product, and change a color or two. (Although I see no option to customize the welcome box.) There is a welcome box for $12.49 with the code on the site, and you are signed up for the subscription of $24.99/month. Shipping is free. Then there is a 3 month intro offer which comes with a welcome box, 2 months of Maven and free shipping for $39.98 with the code on the site. Although I loved Julep, I'm not sold on limiting myself to one brand.

3. BoxyCharm - You get 4-5 full & "luxury" size beauty products for $21/month, and shipping is free. If you pre-pay for a year you get one month free. I really love the look of this box, and the products look really nice. This is one I plan on trying, as the reviews are quite good. I wanted everything I saw in people's July boxes - which almost never happens to me. Sadly, BoxyCharm only ships to the US, and excludes Hawaii and Alaska. BoxyCharm states they have a community that shares tutorials. They also have a rewards system, giveaways, and - well seriously I am trying this one. ;)

4. Lookfantastic - This box from the UK is £15/month which is USD $23.41 - therefore qualifying for this post. You save money if you prepay for a longer plan. The box is a very chic black and comes with at least six assorted beauty products. The site is adding a special product to some boxes worth £99, which I've never heard of a box subscription doing before. Sizes appear to be deluxe sample/borderline full. Shipping is free to several countries, including the USA & Canada. I would love to try this box.

After looking through these, I decided to order BoxyCharm. What are your favorite beauty subscription boxes?

My Current Facial Cleansing Routine

My skincare routine has changed so, so much in the last 6 months or so...I basically went from having super dry, irritated and sensitive skin to very hydrated skin. (So hydrated I actually had to tone down my moisturizer). I decided to stop using my AHA product, and switch from a very minimalist routine to a very complex routine - I admit, it requires a certain mindset. I really like this, in the end, because it forces me to SLOW DOWN. Relax, breathe, repeat. :)

A big part of this new beauty routine is simply washing my face. I have adopted the Korean skincare routine of double (sometimes triple) cleansing and it makes a huge difference.

Here are my current cleansers. Of these, the Sulwhasoo Cleansing Oil and su:m Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick are my favorites. The Pacifica Coco Pure Makeup Removing Wipes (available at Target) really don't remove much makeup but is a nice "toning" feel. The Shiseido Benefique NT Cleansing Foam is incredibly creamy, but I have to remember to keep it away from my eyes. It's a wonderful cleanser when my skin is feeling ultra-dry.

But this Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Oil (found at neimanmarcus) is so great at removing really stubborn makeup. It is pretty much perfect. The su:m miracle rose cleansing stick (I purchased mine at sokoglam.com) is really my favorite cleanser. It smells like actually roses, has pieces of roses, is creamy, doesn't sting if I get it near my eyes, and is completely indispensable.

The only item I don't really love out of all these are the makeup wipes. They smell wonderful, but are a bit too sensitizing for me, and sting my eyes a little.

What are your favorite face cleansers?
